Morocco on Dipity.
Added are 5 important events in Moroccan History that show how far its leadership has come. Beginning with the Alawite Dynasty taking over in 1660, this family came to power and has been in power since then. Considering we are in the 21st century and this family has ruled since the 17th century it is interesting to see what changes and similarities the Kings have had with each other. In 1912, The Treaty of Fez was signed to allow France to be a protector of Morocco. This led to France and Spain's influence and conquers in Morocco. In 1956, Morocco claimed independence from France and partially Spain because some Spanish ruled areas did not annex until later in the 20th century. In 1961, Hassan the second became King of Morocco. He reformed Morocco in making improvements in government, foreign affairs, independence and even wrote a new body of rules and laws for Morocco to follow. He brought together a lot of Morocco and was a positive figure until his death in 1999. In 2004 a major earthquake hit killing many people in Morocco. This was one of the first major events the new King had to deal with and handled it well sending aide to each effected area.
